Before boarding

Important information

Prepare for a smooth crossing. Here you will find tips for wellbeing on board, boarding locations and alternatives if plans change.

01 · Wellbeing on board

Tips to prevent seasickness

Food and hydration

  • Eat light meals: have something light before boarding. Avoid a very full or completely empty stomach.
  • Avoid fats and alcohol: stay away from fried foods, heavy meals and alcoholic drinks from the day before.
  • Try ginger: ginger tea, fresh ginger or natural ginger sweets help control nausea.
  • Stay hydrated: drink water in small sips, but avoid too much coffee or caffeinated soft drinks.

Choosing your seat and posture

  • Sit in the middle or towards the back: choose seats in the central or rear part of the vessel, where there is less movement than at the bow (front).
  • Look at the horizon: focus on a fixed point on the horizon. This helps your brain understand the movement.
  • Do not look down: avoid closing your eyes inside an enclosed cabin or looking at the floor or nearby waves.
  • Breathe fresh air: if possible, stay in a well-ventilated area.

What to avoid on board

  • No screens: do not use your phone or tablet, or read books, during the crossing.
  • Strong smells: avoid stuffy places or areas with strong odours, which can trigger nausea.

In case of bad weather or mechanical problems

Sea conditions are not always suitable for navigation, but your journey will still go ahead. If the sea is too rough, dangerous or uncomfortable, or the vessel has a mechanical problem, we will arrange a combined sea and land transfer for your safety and wellbeing.
