Some facts require additional explanation, so pay attention to the details.
- The founding of the town (1535) took place during the colonization of the land by Francisco Romero, who, under indigenous attacks, chose a position further north on the island of Tinharé.
- The Little Chapel was a church close to where the Lighthouse stands today and, as it was collapsing, it was replaced by the Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz, in the center of the village.
- Fonte Grande can still be visited. Easily accessible, it's worth stopping by and seeing the largest water supply system in Bahia as a colony.
- The Lighthouse often served as a defense mechanism against Dutch invasions.
- Dom Pedro II's trip to Valença had a special stop at Morro de São Paulo. Next to the Marquesa de Santos and the court, staying at the Casarão, which is now an inn/restaurant. Thus, the records of the trip can be found at the Ipiranga Museum, in Rio de Janeiro.
